Plate IThe site. The parcel from above: the drive in from the road, the house set across the wooded slope, the second building beside it, and the dock reaching into the water.
Every other drawing in this set is taken from somewhere on this plan.

Plate IIThe house from the water. The lake side of the house, mostly glass, standing above a rock shoreline with steps running down the slope to the dock.
The trees behind it are left standing. This is the elevation you meet coming back in by boat.

Plate IIIThe approach. The drive comes in through the trees to a low timber wall and one door, with the second building set off to the right.
Nothing of the lake is visible from this side; you come round to it.

Plate IVThe great room. Stone runs floor to ceiling on one wall and glass to the lake on the other, with the seating turned between them.
Reclaimed timber, wool and linen, and the stair at the left running up through the house.

Plate VThe kitchen and the long table. The island with the range behind it, stools along one side, and the long table set where the windows turn to the water.
It seats all ten of you without anybody moving furniture.

Plate VIThe deck and the cedar hot tub. Drawn along the rail: the cedar tub at the near end, chairs turned out to the water, and cable instead of balusters so the view is not cut into strips.
The deck wraps the lake side of the house.

Plate VIIThe primary bedroom. The king bed faces a window wall that runs the length of the room, with a table in the far corner and the tree line past that.
The lake is the first thing in the morning.

Plate VIIIThe outdoor kitchen. Stone counters, a grill and a wood-fired oven built into the slope, with the long table on the flags between them and the water.
Cooking here means nobody has to go inside.

Plate IXThe boathouse and the dock. The lower level opens straight onto the shore: a boathouse under the house, canoes drawn up on the bank, and the dock running out to a float.
The lake is the reason the house sits where it does.

Plate XThe house in winter. Snow to the waterline, the trees bare enough to read the whole shape of the house, and the windows the only warm thing in the drawing.
The season most people skip.

Plate XIThe house at night. Drawn from across the water with the lights on: a line of windows in the trees, which is about what the far shore sees of it.
At that distance the house is very little.
